Presenting the CASA CINE 2025 residents! From May 6 to 27, we'll be welcoming the film score composers Alberto Torres (Spain) and Clémentine Charuel (France) at the Château de la Napoule to develop the score for a feature film for cinema.

Head on the Wall

Alberto Torres is a Spanish composer and film producer. He studied History and Sciences of Music at the University of La Rioja and Piano and Music Language at the Jacinto Guerrero Conservatory of Toledo. His classical training as well as his experience in pop music have allowed him to take on many varied composition projects, ranging from experimental electronic music, orchestral scores, flamenco or indie rock.

Throughout his career, he has worked with artists such as Steve Shelley and Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth, Rosalía and Niño de Elche, and collaborated on numerous international productions presented at festivals such as Cannes, Locarno, MoMA New York, San Sebastián, Toronto, São Paulo and Bafici Buenos Aires festivals. Among his collaborations are films like Domingo and the Mist (2022) by Ariel Escalante, The Handover (2022) by Pedro Díaz and Mama (2021) by Pablo de la Chica, which won a Goya award for Best Documentary Short Film. He also frequently composes for television, and his work has been featured in global series like Toy Boy (Netflix/Atresmedia) and One Way or Another (HBO MAX/SkyShowtime).

Alberto Torres’ film scores have won numerous awards. In 2022, he was selected for the Berlinale Talents and received a nomination for the Ariel Award from the Mexican Film Academy for Best Original Music for his work on Buy Me a Gun (2019) by Julio Hernández Cordon.

In addition to composing, Alberto Torres also teaches at TAI ARTS University Centre and at Música Creativa University Centre in Madrid. He has led numerous workshops and conferences across Spain and Latin America and is a voting member of both the European, Spanish and Mexican Film Academies as well as the Latin Grammy.

At the CASA CINE residency, he will be composing the music for Head on the Wall, director Manuel Manrique’s first feature film based eponymous short, was selected during its development at Focus COPRO - Cinéma de demain in Cannes, The Incubator at ECAM Industria, Ventana Cinemad and Locarno's Match Me!

My Happy Family

Clémentine Charuel is a film score composer from France. She studied piano and classical music at the conservatory and was a member of several rock bands and chamber choirs. She has a masters degree in musicology from Sorbonne and obtained a masters degree in film music composition from Berklee College of Music in 2018. In her work, she has explored diverse writing styles, blending the orchestral writing inherited from her classical studies with electronic and vocal textures.

Throughout her career, she has composed for over twenty fiction and documentary projects, including the feature film Cherry (2022) by Sophie Galibert, which won the Tribeca Award, the short film Icarus (2024) by Christos Kardana and the documentary Des Femmes, Une Voix (2025) by Stan Zambeaux.

Clémentine Charuel is a laureate of numerous programs organized by the Maison du Film, ALCIME and SACEM. She joined the Académie des César in 2024. The same year, the Maison du Film selected her as a mentor for the Pass Sésame Compositeur, and the Orchestre Colonne commissioned her to write Ouverture sur un fragment d'histoire, premiered at the Salle Gaveau in Paris. In 2025, she served as a member of the jury at the festival Music & Cinema Marseille.

During the CASA CINE residency, she will work on the score composition for My Happy Family, by Turkish director Alkim Özmen, a French co-production that throughout its development has received various recognitions such as the Best Project Award at the Balkan Film Market 2023 and the Best Feature Screenplay Award at the Luma Kisa Film Festival 2023.
