CINE-RENCONTRE WITH AGNÈS JAOUI

at Campus Georges Méliès

5/12/2024

The Campus Georges Méliès – Cannes Bastide Rouge, La Napoule Art Foundation, and SERENA Productions are pleased to invite the public to an exceptional CINE-RENCONTRE with Agnès Jaoui, on Monday, May 27, 2024, at 5:30 p.m at the Campus Georges Méliès.

Agnès Jaoui, screenwriter, director and CASA CINE mentor, will share with us her “first times”: as an actress, as a screenwriter and as a director. The screening of her first feature film, The Taste of Others (2000), will be followed by exchanges with the audience.

Agnès Jaoui came to directing in the same way as she came to writing, “so as to no longer depend on the desires of others” and to master her destiny as an actress. She trained at the École des Amandiers, in Nanterre, under Patrice Chéreau. It was on the stage that she met Jean-Pierre Bacri, and they soon began writing together. In 1994, she wrote her first screenplay for Alain Resnais, Smoking, no smoking. This was followed by Family Resemblances and Same Old Song. Awarded several César, the duo wrote The Taste of Others, in which Agnès Jaoui took her first steps as a director.

In The Taste of Others, the lives and loves of several men and women intersect in a delightfully funny web of romantic entanglements, navigating differences of class, style, and personal taste.

Upon its release, The Taste of Others was received with critical acclaim, having won four César Awards (Best film, Best writing, Best Actor and Best Actress) and an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.

Don't miss out on this exceptional encounter!
